Residents of Reiger Park on the East Rand have issued an urgent call to law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for a violent shooting incident that claimed four lives last Friday are swiftly brought to justice.

Community members gathered at the House of Nations Church to attend a memorial service for 36-year-old Roleen Lessing, one of the victims killed in the attack. The tragedy also claimed the lives of Lessing's friend, Jaydin Magerman, alongside two members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) anti-gang unit.

Addressing mourners during the service, community leader Cyril Reeby urged the neighborhood to unite against local violence and take active ownership in combating crime. He called on residents to stand up, confront the ongoing security challenges, and press perpetrators to surrender to authorities.

In the wake of the fatal shooting, law enforcement officials have arrested a 23-year-old male suspect in connection with the murders, with investigative bodies expressing confidence in building a strong prosecution case as legal proceedings move forward.
